Michigan Senators Push for More Alternative Fuel Stations: 07/08/06

Michigan’s US senators want more alternative fuel stations in the state. Currently there are just 12 E-85 stations across Michigan, but democrats Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin issued a challenge, wanting to bring more than 1,200 stations here by 2008. They say it will help drivers at the pump and create new jobs.
Debbie Stabenow, (D) Michigan: “I’m challenging the oil companies and the service station dealers to say, that in the next two years, Michigan will have 25%, or one out of every four service stations, with a flex fuel pump. We need to be the leaders in this.”
One of those leaders is right at Michigan State. The university has a biomass conversion lab. That lab’s being used to take agriculture products like corn and turn them into usable and affordable fuels.
